Fall to Me

Wow i’ve pretty much fallen off the planet! My sewing machine has been collecting dust, i’ve purged craft supplies of all kinds, I’m just not in a creative season. We are in a busy season as most are during summer but i’m also just in a season where most of my time is spent working or reading or doing bible study or prepping for a 5k. I’ve finished my christmas gifts except for my husband but we went with bought gifts this year it was just easier. (The only redeeming factor is we did our best to buy from brands that give in some way). That all being said the fall is upon us in 2 days!!! So since i’m busy at bible study, and leadership training, and going on camping trips my creativity has gone to the kitchen! I wanted to share a few of the recipes i’ve been trying out lately some better then others all thanks to pinterest! (if you don’t know I’m a pinterest-a-holic then you don’t know me!) Choc Chip cookies

Oh man we found a new recipe that we are loving. i make a dough batch mondays pop it in the freezer and we coook up just a few everyday for a little treat after nap. ready for the recipe? Wish i could call it my own but its off the Trader Joes whole wheat flour packaging (do you like TJ? do you have a whole wheat flour recipe you like to share?)

Ok here it is..

2 cups whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 granulated sugar

1 cup softened butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 eggs

1 package choc chips

Preheat oven to 375. and ere is were i don’t follow the recipe… mix it all together! (i’m sure it helps to mix dry and wet seperate i don’t bother cookies are cookies i’m not going for perfection here!) scoop and bake!

So yum!!!!!

I will say i have discovered the difference between shaping dough and just scooping it out. when i shape it into balls i get much fluffy cookies were when i scoop it out they are much flatter. either way these cookies don’t last till daddy gets home.

We’ve been cooking….

Party Time!

Yesterday was Launch of my pinterest party month. I started it off with a pinterest party with friends from church. 3 hours of no kids, a yummy lunch and crafts!

It started out to be 3 crafts… an apothecary jar, a tinted masson jar and a scarf. But then i worried that the jars would go so fast that there would be so much down time. So i pulled out the etching cream and some coffee mugs with chalk board paint, oh and some scrap fabric for headbands just in case! (ok so i went from not enough to fill time to overly ambitious) But Hey we still had fun and how was i to know the girls who came were AMAZING perfectionists (unlike myself, all though sometimes i aspire to be that detailed).

We did have fun though! These are the pinterest links to the projects that inspired what we made and the food we ate if you are intersted in any of them….

New Recipe Addict

I’ll admit i’m adicted to trying new recipes. I’m not really a food person & I don’t have strong tsense of smell which is linked to your taste buds &  then your food cravings; that gven i tend to eat plainer foods & a lot of the same things. However I love new recipes! I love cooking and baking even if the recipe doesn’t sound like something i’d eat (i’m also very picky!). Lucky for me i married a food lover so he tries all my new recipes. Lately he has been lucky enough to eat all new & non of y standard staples which get old for him. Of course they all came Pinterest, My favorite place in the world! Are you on there yet? do you need an invite?

That being said here are the latest recipes we’ve tried, and let me tell you all of them were hits! especially these first two….

Christmas Trifle

Inspired by this pretty Red Velvet Trifle I decided to make my own for Christmas dessert. I had intended to follow the recipe exact with the exception of replacing the chocolate ganache with chocolate pudding. Well and i used boxed red velvet cake! But I was in a hurry and didn’t pay attention and ended up altering the recipe, i didn’t realize it until later that evening after everyone had eaten and fallen in love with my dessert.  So here is mine…

Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 box red velvet cake (follow ingredients on box)

1 pkg cool whip

1 box cook and serve chocolate pudding

chocolate chips to taste.

Directions:

Cook box of cake according to the box in a rectangular cake pan or baking dish.

While cake is cooling cook up cook and serve pudding and place in fridge to cool (you could sub with instant pudding if you like, either way i suggest letting it cool and thicken either way)

Once all is cooled cut into squares.

Asembly:

First layer is squares of cake, top with chocolate pudding and then cool whip.

Repeat until you reach the top of your Trifle dish ending with cool whip. (for me this was 2 layers)

Garnish the top with cake crumbles and chocolate chips.

ENJOY! It was very yummy!
