What do i do w/him?
Posted: October 15, 2009 Filed under: Kids Crafts | Tags: Handcrafted, kids 2 CommentsMy Baby is 10 months old yesterday and i although i cherish everyminute with him a piece of me is wishing he was older so i could start homsechool preschool w/him and so he and i could do crafts and art projects. I love playing w/him but i would love to do more intentional and education activites with him. Then yesterday as he sat in his highchair i realized there is atleast one art project i could do with him… i could finger paint!
He’s not big enough to color, cut or paste, but he loves his fingers! so why not whip up some edible or non toxic homemade finger paint and let him have at it? Today i went and got all the supplies i would need, along with some fabric that i could do his hand prints on for christmas gifts for Grandma.
hopefully with in the next week we will get the time to do the project and i will post pictures but in the meantime here are recipes for homade finger paint incase your interested…
the first is from Crafting a Green world:
Recipe
1 cup cornstarch
3 cups water
food coloring
In a saucepan, boil the 3 cups of water. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl dissolve your cornstarch in just a bit of water. Remove your saucepan from the heat, and dissolve the cornstarch mixture in the hot water. Bring the mixture back to a boil and cook it until it’s thick and clear. Divide your fingerpaint into separate small containers and let it cool before mixing in your food coloring.
The next recipe is made of Pudding:
Recipe
1 box instant vanilla pudding
food coloring
Mix pudding according to directions on box. Seperate into smaller containers and add food coloring as desired.
Don’t want to use food coloring? there are options in your very own kitchen for natural dyes, i found these on Eco Childs play …
Orange: 2Tbsp Paprika
Blue: 1 1/2 cups blueberries
Pink: 1 cup chopped fresh beets
Green: 1 cup blueberries and 2 tbsp turmeric
Have recipes of your own for dye or fingerpaint? or suggestions on what to do with a one year old? i’d love to hear it…
finger paint is a great one.
